What Is an ELSS?
An Engineered Life Safety System is a coordinated life-safety approach used in certain high-rise buildings to address fire and life-safety requirements through an engineered combination of systems and building features. Depending on the property, an ELSS project may involve fire alarm upgrades, sprinkler protection, smoke control, stair pressurization, emergency power, fire-rated assemblies, engineering analysis, permitting, testing and AHJ approval. Not every ELSS requires every system — the right combination depends on your building, its existing systems, and the approved engineering strategy.
